Just seen some of our seven ton bank!!!!! for the new ferry. Very exciting, they're made by http://www.europeanbatteries.com/ of Finland who came in at half the price of SAFT's quote apparently. Hoping to pick up a few free samples (in my dreams) for the new house :-)

Cheers, PaulAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3102963615850212294.post-51521524331915691282012-07-19T17:00:39.418+01:002012-07-19T17:00:39.418+01:00Yeah, short history, even shorter commercial histo...Yeah, short history, even shorter commercial history, hesitation to deal with the Chinese who are the main makers of these things and general decades old inertia in the market. Chargers and inverters and so on are all designed to work with lead acid so need reprogramming (if you're lucky) or hardware mods to work properly with lithium.

There's also market resistance. PbA cells that die every 3-4 years keep lots of people in a job. Batteries that last 10-15 years don't.

Lithium is a game changer. Smartphones could never have existed if you had to run them off NiCd or PbA cells!Outtasighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02048189191321429295noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3102963615850212294.post-71107850143898647082012-07-19T11:17:20.265+01:002012-07-19T11:17:20.265+01:00Very interesting site. I really think the future for solar powered householders lies with the development of "affordable" storage devices.
Would you consider adding a piece on your experiences on my site?
www.solarpowerdiary.co.uk I'm sure people would be interested in what you're doing.
Keep up the good work.....SolarIcarushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14846786524226774018noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3102963615850212294.post-49332988628330457692012-07-19T05:05:31.996+01:002012-07-19T05:05:31.996+01:00It is my belief that the only things holding Lifep...It is my belief that the only things holding Lifepo batts from being fully adopted in the off grid market (aside from initial costs - not considering long term ownership costs) is the short history of them. Being what, 2008 or so?

The flip side of course being that while PB has been around forever, history well established, it has some serious drawbacks. Weight, maintenance, charges etc, and longevity. The Stay @ Home-Gardenerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06102175625149771801noreply@blogger.com
